Abstract
The next generation network will not be as it was intended in the late '70. While it was devised as a low-pace set of link between university mainframes, nowadays its face is completely di_erent. However in the last four decades the basic infrastructure has remained the same and it now struggles to keep up with all of the features users expect from the network. In spite of numerous improvements during the years today internet Only Just Works and it has gained consensus the idea that any further design issue has to be carried on only through the devising of completely new and uniform infrastructure. This no one _ts all infrastructure has not yet been presented . The implemented ideas of the last 40 years have been a collection of patches to apply to the original client-server networking paradigm that also badly _ts the emergence of widespread mobility in the access segment. For instance the creation and maintenance of a modern network segment, a communication protocol, a service or an application are all task that are di_cult to complete if not using arti_ces that add further complexity to the already overloaded infrastructure. It also have been witnessed a change in the way the access network is managed: there has been a switch in the side on which the content is generated in favor of the original consumer, the end-user.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
