ABSTRACT The proverb "Knowledge is power points out the importance of knowledge. Most understand the importance of knowledge and treat knowledge as a vital resource. However, it is not quite clear whether knowledge management can increase organizational performance in the constantly changing environment. Over the past 15 years, knowledge management (KM) has progressed from an emergent concept to an increasingly common function in business organizations. Although literature has indicated the key role of knowledge resources and their impact on organizational performance, empirical study is still lacking in this research domain. Hence, the purpose of this study is to investigate the relationship between knowledge management and organizational performance. This research is based on understanding the importance of knowledge management practices and policies within an organization. Understanding knowledge management is critical for organizations because the persons concerned are not trained adequately to access, use and benefit from this knowledge effectively. The relationship between job satisfaction and job performance is of central interest of this study. Based on the objectives of the study, six hypotheses were developed to test the relationships among organization performance determinants. The study was conducted using survey questionnaire and the data were collected from 362 employers in Italia. Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) using Partial Least Squares (PLS) method was applied to test the relationships in this study. The findings indicate that knowledge management; job satisfaction and job performance are key sources of organization performance. The contribution of this study has been to confirm the distinction between job satisfaction and job performance. Overall, these results indicate that knowledge management is an essential driver for organization performance. These findings enhance our understanding that knowledge management can increase job satisfaction and job performance. This study provides significant theoretical and managerial implications. Limitations and suggestions for future investigation are also discussed.
ABSTRACT Il proverbio "La conoscenza è potere" sottolinea l'importanza della consapevolezza.
