Understanding the nature of institutions and social norms is a challenge to which economists, political analysts and social scientists have dedicated all their efforts. Recently, some scholars have tried to explore the cognitive mechanisms that help human decision-makers perform the myriad of coordination tasks they face in everyday life. The approach employed in this work consists of a combination of the methods and results from a variety of disciplines (political philosophy, behavioral economics, epistemic game theory, cognitive sciences and evolutionary biology). Following an interdisciplinary method, my dissertation would show that the understanding of institutions and the way they change cannot be separated from the "co-evolution" mechanism of mind, culture and environment, which have a relevant influence on the incentive systems and individual and collective beliefs. Thus, if we consider the relationship between politics and complex-dynamic systems we have to be aware of the limited possibilities to modify the dynamics of a system through legal reforms supported by a "hyper-rationalistic mentality".
