This research is about the development and mission of the art archive (including fine art, design, architecture, photography, and fashion), starting from the case study of the Study Center and Archive of Communication (CSAC) in the University of Parma in order to contextualize it within the current international debate on new meaning for the word "archive", its practice and its development as a "space of conflict". The working methodology has been defined starting from the activity carried out inside CSAC Center and from the analysis of specific contemporary essays, taking as reference the American and European context. Within this study we recognize the exhibition as an important media for the communication of archive complexity and as a tool for new theories, researches and experimentations. The research is built on five sections: an exploration of current theories about "archives" about differents approach and disciplines from the XX century to nowadays, then the analysis of the activities of nine selected archives and museums through a group of interviews realized during a period of research in New York City. So after a detailed study of the CSAC focusing on the history of his exhibitions and his theory model as an art "archive", finally I write about three case studies of exhibitions that share a common interest in searching a new way to talk about history of art, design and architecture and, in two of them, to talk about archives. We want to demonstrate, within an international context, that the activities on the archives and expecially the practice of the exhibition making are full of interdisciplinary implications and they could be consolidated in the destiny of structures in the cultural system. In fact the working space between the archive and the exhibition could be a key way the model of a new cultural institution emerges from the art archival collection. I also identify the University as a place of development of new models and recognize the many aspects and practices that the art archive involves, from the exhibition to cataloging, from research to conservation and their improvement a system build on teaching and learning.

Abstract
I also identify the University as a place of development of new models and recognize the many aspects and practices that the art archive involves, from the exhibition to cataloging, from research to conservation and their improvement a system build on teaching and learning.I documenti in UNITESI sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
