While a vast number of studies have pointed out several keys of success for the diffusion of breakthrough innovation in the biomedical field, little attention has been paid to the value that patients can have in the strategies of placing new products in the market. The literature does not provide support except of for marginal questions. The purpose of this research is to produce some evidence on the association among health strategies, patients and successful breakthroughs in the biomedical field. In particular, this study was conceived for directly aligning with three HTA strategic areas: 1) it will provide innovative insight on how to successfully involving patients in decision making and, in particular, strategies for engaging patients perspective in priority-setting during research processes; 2) it will reinforce a patient-centered care approach in HTA; 3) it will serve as a strategy to increase quality of care and patient safety through an aware acceptance of useful breakthroughs in healthcare.

Acceptability in HTA: assessing breakthrough innovations in the biomedical field in a patient perspective
