The subject of the research is “The alae of the Roman Army in Dacia. Historical analysis and catalogue of the epigraphical, archaeological and numismatic sources”. The pourpose is to create a complete catalogue of the sources for the auxiliary cavalry units (alae) of the Roman Army in Dacia, during the period of the roman province (106- 271 A.D.) in order to estimate the role of these troops in the overall defensive strategy and in the control of the the territory. The second aim of the research is to examine the influence of the alae in the social, economical and cultural life of the province, on the basis of the archaeological and epigraphical evidence and to seek the traces of social integration between the soldiers and the indigenous population in the material culture and in the spiritual life.

Abstract
