With the global spread of British and American cultures in the 20th and 21st centuries, many English terms have entered popular usage in other tongues. Italian is one of the most receptive languages for Anglicisms, inasmuch as a large number of English words and phrases are often used in current language and by the media. This research focuses on the language of entertainment as a sensitive and prolific field for the use of Anglicisms, taking into account a collection of articles taken from “La Repubblica”. The aim of this project is the analysis of the processes of adaptation and integration of English loanwords in Italian on a morphological and phonological level, and of the diachronic evolution in specific case studies. In the project, a qualitative analysis of the Anglicisms found in “La Repubblica” will be integrated with their quantitative analyses in Italian corpora in order to establish their level of lexicalisation as actual neologisms of Italian. Results from the analyses will be finally tested through questionnaires on native Italian speakers.
