Abstract

Human re-occupation at the site of Riparo Tagliente (Lessini Mountains, Verona) after the last glacial maximum, started in the Ancient Dryas. This site represents therefore the most ancient known deposit in the Southern slope of the Alps to be inhabited during the Late Glacial. Excavations carried out in the last decades have allowed a good social organisation, the quality of raw material and available technical options may assure Epigravettian some stability and conditions for the renewal of their societies. The area inside the shelter where is located the stratigraphic units 299 and 300 is characterized by a important and rich lithic industry of Maiolica, which is the basis of our study. This work has focused on examining the behavior of Epigravettian groups across the techno-economic, typological and functional analysis of stratigraphic units 299 and 300 of the formation of the Maiolica of Riparo Tagliente during the early phases of Late Glacial; This in order to describe the technical process and their economic impact and functional within site.
