The aim of this dissertation is the study of fragments of the early work by Unamuno, which are also present in the second half of the avant-texte of The tragic sense of life. These fragments are mainly found in the third chapter of his book, and to a lesser extent in the seventh, eighth and ninth chapter. The last three chapters, by contrast, are almost completely free from textual connections with Meditaciones Evangélicas and the Tratado del Amor de Dios. This finding confirms the hypothesis that the last chapters of The tragic sense of life have been written after Meditaciones Evangélicas and the Tratado del Amor de Dios, presumably around 1911-1912, with certainty after 1908 (the year when Unamuno abandoned the project of the Tratado.
