The main field of interest of this PhD has concerned the study of the behaviour of particular structures (in metal and composite material) subordinates to static and dynamic loads with the aim to pass specific crash-tests. The research activity has had two main topics: the analytical study of the crash by means of the numerical simulation of simple models and the comparison between the numerical results and the experimental data. After a bibliographical search on the topic of the crash to focus on the general aspects and to know the state of the art of this problematic one, the attention has been focused on the learning of the Finite Element Method (FEM), in linear field and not, and on its operation in particular codes of calculation. Being the phenomenon of crash dynamic and strongly not linear, it has been studied combining the software ANSYS with the wide used code LS-DYNA. Using therefore ANSYS like pre and post-processor and LS-DYNA for the solution, have been done simulations of the collapse process of tubes of different shape in order to approach itself the case of crash-boxes for race car prototype.
