Corrosion induced degradation of mechanical properties of steel reinforcing bars for reinforced concrete structures

2010

Abstract

The thesis study the effects of corrosion on the mechanical characteristics of steel rebars and consequently on the performance of reinforced concrete elements with particular attention to fatigue and ductility. The thesis also investigate the relation between the intensity of the anodic current used in durability tests to activate rebar corrosion and the morphology of the induced corrosion damage. The problem was experimentally investigated by comparing the mechanical characteristics of noncorroded and laboratory corroded rebars.
