One of the most important cultic aspects of Sicily is related to water worship since the island's ancient religiosity is closely related to the natural elements of its territory. Archaeological evidence is of particular interest, and this aspect of the territory deserves specific investigation. In particular, the cult of the water nymphs and the shrines dedicated to them is a fundamental part of the investigation, which involves as part of an interdisciplinary research work the analysis of the territory, the investigation of water management and the geographical analysis of the cults on the island, as well as the environment in which they took place. It was in fact considered a fundamental part of the cult. The focus of the research will therefore involve the analysis of the places used for the cult of the Nymphs in ancient Sicily. The focus will be on the written sources, essential evidence of rituals and cults connected with the veneration of water and the mythical-historical figures related to it, in a land that presents, in all its demonstrations, a continuity of cults and structural forms that are hardly evident in other contexts. By preserving the material and immaterial culture of Sicily, a middle land and crossroads of peoples, the history of the peoples who inhabited its lands, who erected monuments there and who produced what we now call Cultural Heritage is also safeguarded.

Abstract
By preserving the material and immaterial culture of Sicily, a middle land and crossroads of peoples, the history of the peoples who inhabited its lands, who erected monuments there and who produced what we now call Cultural Heritage is also safeguarded.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
