The thesis aims to shed light on the fertile and dynamic contemporary opera scene through the case study of director Damiano Michieletto's stagings. By surveying and filing a sample chosen from about 60 opera stagings between 2003 and 2022, in national and international theaters, the aim is to systematize Michieletto's expressive components and thus study contemporary opera staging as a multifaceted artistic language. For this purpose, documentary traces of various kinds including textual (librettos, press releases, reviews, interviews), iconographic (storyboards, sketches, figurines, stage photos) and audio-video (videos of stagings, interviews, technical rehearsals) have been examined to explore the eclectic Michielettian operatic works. In addition this, the Venetian director's experiments in television-web and cinema will also be contextualized. This complex and multifaceted framework of documentary sources emerges as a valuable tool for research in the performance field of the contemporary and ever-evolving phenomenon such as opera staging, which has the burden and honor of revitalizing masterpieces of national and foreign musical heritage as well as producing culture.

Abstract
This complex and multifaceted framework of documentary sources emerges as a valuable tool for research in the performance field of the contemporary and ever-evolving phenomenon such as opera staging, which has the burden and honor of revitalizing masterpieces of national and foreign musical heritage as well as producing culture.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
