The frammento season in Italy (1905-1916), in which literary experimentalism intersected the problem of modern poetry, resulted in a hybrid form of writing between poem and prose. This study aims to analyze the frammento and its development from its origins in French models. The PhD thesis, adopting a supranational perspective, provides an overview of an experimental phase that intersects autobiography, cultural engagement, avant-garde movements and visual arts. Particular attention is given to periodical press: «Marzocco», «Leonardo», «Lacerba», «Riviera Ligure», with a special focus on «La Voce» under both its directors Prezzolini and De Robertis. The research is enriched by documents from the Archivio Prezzolini (Lugano, Switzerland), consulted during a six-month research stay. Prezzolini’s extensive network of relationships (also between Florence and Paris), offers valuable insights for contextualization of the expressive choices of 20th century. The dissertation, following Preface and Introduction, is structured into two sections: the first investigates French and Italian relations, with Soffici as a key intermediary figure; while the second section examines four authors (offering an historical and biographical reconstruction), whose experimentation coincided with their literary debut: Slataper, Boine, Jahier and Sbarbaro. The close reading and critical analysis of theirs compositions try to reflect a particular choice (a vocation) influenced by the context. The final part focuses on the final results. The experimental pages, the complex network of relationships and the militant criticism made possible the interpretation of the frammento season in Italy made of translations, transitions and exchanges between different genres. Lastly, a separated space is dedicated to the archival materials (letters, press clippings), with comparison of records through a complex stratification of connections.
