Il Redefossi e la "forma urbis Mediolani"

The relationship between the city of Milan and its waterways has always been critical. At the core of this work is the reconstruction of the previously unknown route of the Redefossi, a canal that has defined the urban boundary for centuries as a military and fiscal limit and that despite dating back to the XIV Century, still flows partly under Milan. The work analyses on the one hand the urban water system and its evolution, and on the other the urban transformations through the centuries. Special attention has been given to the role of the Redefossi in defining the City during the Renaissance, the Neoclassical period, and the late nineteenth century by examining the contribution among others of Leonardo da Vinci, Piermarini, Cagnola and the council urban plans.

Per Milano il rapporto tra i progetti per le acque e quelli per la costruzione della città è stato cruciale. In questo studio si è ricostruito il tracciato, ad oggi non ancora noto, del Redefossi. Canale risalente al Trecento, che ha costituito per secoli il limite militare e fiscale della città e che, in parte, scorre ancora sotto Milano. Ciò ha dato occasione di analizzare da un lato il sistema delle acque urbane e la sua evoluzione, dall'altro le trasformazioni della forma della città nel corso dei secoli. Particolare attenzione è stata rivolta al ruolo del Redefossi nella definizione della città rinascimentale, neoclassica e tardo-ottocentesca analizzando il contributo tra gli altri di Leonardo da Vinci, di Piermarini, di Cagnola e dei piani regolatori.
