STRATEGIE INNOVATIVE PER LA VALORIZZAZIONE DEL PATRIMONIO STORICO ANTROPIZZATO: CONOSCENZA, SOSTENIBILITA' SOCIALE E AMBIENTALE. SVILUPPI E APPLICAZIONI NEI CONTESTI MONTANI CON UN FOCUS SULL'ARCHEOLOGIA DELL'EDILIZIA STORICA NELLA VALLE BREMBANA

This research project is part of the 37th cycle of PhD programs funded by the National Operational Program (PON), specifically under Action IV.5 focused on “green” themes and sustainable development. It continues and expands upon a long-standing initiative launched in 2017 by the Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore in Milan and the Fondazione Lemine, centered on the archaeology of historic buildings in the province of Bergamo. The study focuses on the mountain area of the Brembana Valley, analyzing medieval and post-medieval architectural heritage as a key to enhancing the cultural, environmental, and socio-economic value of the territory. Through an interdisciplinary approach combining archaeology, human geography, history, and environmental sciences, the research explores settlement dynamics, the transformation of the cultural landscape, and the legal frameworks concerning mountain regions. The objective is to promote self-sustainable development models based on the concept of the “urban bioregion,” aiming to leverage local resources, counteract depopulation, and foster sustainable and community-driven tourism. Ultimately, the project seeks to contribute to the regeneration of mountain communities and to the construction of new paradigms of urban-mountain cooperation.

Il progetto di ricerca si inserisce nell’ambito del XXXVII ciclo di dottorato PON, in particolare nell’Azione IV.5 dedicata ai temi “green” e allo sviluppo sostenibile. L’indagine prosegue e approfondisce il progetto avviato nel 2017 dall’Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore di Milano e dalla Fondazione Lemine, focalizzato sull’archeologia dell’edilizia storica nella provincia di Bergamo. Il lavoro si concentra sul contesto montano della Valle Brembana, analizzando il patrimonio edilizio medievale e post-medievale come chiave per la valorizzazione culturale, ambientale e socio-economica del territorio. Attraverso un approccio interdisciplinare che integra archeologia, geografia umana, storia e scienze ambientali, il progetto indaga le dinamiche insediative, le trasformazioni del paesaggio culturale e le problematiche normative legate alle aree montane. L’obiettivo è promuovere modelli di sviluppo auto-sostenibile, basati sul concetto di “bioregione urbana”, che valorizzino le risorse locali, contrastino lo spopolamento e incentivino forme di turismo sostenibile e partecipativo. Lo studio si propone infine di contribuire alla rigenerazione delle comunità montane e alla costruzione di nuovi paradigmi di cooperazione urbano-montana.
