The doctoral research in Sociology, Organizations, and Cultures, presented in the dissertation entitled The Experience of Social Laboratories: Towards Sustainable Integration, explores the nexus between migrant integration and sustainability, highlighting its inherently multidimensional nature. In a scholarly landscape that predominantly emphasizes the economic analysis of integration processes, this study adopts a holistic approach, incorporating social, cultural, and environmental dimensions. The theoretical framework draws inspiration from the works of Georg Simmel and Richard Sennett, while the empirical investigation examines experiences of sustainable integration in Italy and Spain. Particular attention is given to social laboratories—enterprises and social cooperatives within the Third Sector—that conceptualize integration as a complex process supported by both manual and creative labor. The notion of cultural sustainability is identified as a key element in fostering long-term, mutually beneficial integration pathways capable of promoting co-development dynamics between countries of origin and destination. Integration is thus conceived as a sustainable, multidimensional, and enriching process for all parties involved. The dissertation is structured into two main sections: the first dedicated to the theoretical framework, and the second to the presentation of the empirical research, with the aim of defining the criteria for sustainable integration and identifying examples of best practices.

Abstract
The dissertation is structured into two main sections: the first dedicated to the theoretical framework, and the second to the presentation of the empirical research, with the aim of defining the criteria for sustainable integration and identifying examples of best practices.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
