Nel momento del pericolo. Walter Benjamin e il Collegio di Sociologia

Il presente studio cerca di chiarire e comprendere una delle relazioni più importanti dell’ultima parte della vita di Walter Benjamin: quella con il Collège de sociologie. Per farlo e sottolineare i punti di contatto e le distanze fra Benjamin e questo gruppo, la tesi si sviluppa come un’indagine storica e teoretica nella quale viene indagato il rapporto politico e filosofico di Benjamin con il milieu intellettuale surrealista prima, e con G. Bataille, R. Caillois e M. Leiris poi. In questa analisi la dialettica di sogno e risveglio fa da fil rouge alla lettura della critica di Benjamin al Collegio, pervenendo a mostrare quanto profonda fu l’influenza di quel gruppo sul pensatore tedesco e quanto profondo il suo dispiacere rispetto al loro dismettere le istanze rivoluzionarie. Infine, l’indagine delle diverse interpretazioni di Franz Kafka fornite dai due gruppi si mostra come luogo privilegiato in cui far emergere la distanza fra le risposte di Benjamin e del Collegio al medesimo problema: quello del mito e delle possibilità di prefigurare una comunità liberata. This study seeks to clarify and understand one of the most important relationships of the last part of Walter Benjamin's life: that with the Collège de sociologie. In order to do so and to highlight the points of contact and distance between Benjamin and this group, the thesis is carried out as a historical and theoretical investigation in which we look at Benjamin's political and philosophical relationship with the Surrealist intellectual milieu first, and with G. Bataille, R. Caillois and M. Leiris then. In this analysis, the dialectic of dream and awakening acts as a fil rouge to the reading of Benjamin's critique of the College, coming to show how deep was the influence of that group on the German thinker and how profound his displeasure at their dismissal of revolutionary instances. Finally, the investigation of the different interpretations of Franz Kafka provided by the two groups shows itself as a privileged place in which to bring out the distance between Benjamin's and the College's responses to the same problem: that of myth and the possibilities of prefiguring a liberated community.
