This research presents an edition of 667 letters written by Pietro Giordani to Pietro Brighenti, nowadays mostly unknown, which are kept in several Italians archives and libraries. In addition to those, the edition provides 7 unpublished letters by Pietro Brighenti to Pietro Giordani. Giordani’s epistolary is attracting attention, gaining a key position in the literary production of his period, either for the historical value, either for the particular consideration that the scholar had of the means of the epistolary genre. He believed that a letter is not a literary piece of work, instead it is a vehicle of ideas and feelings. That is the reason for he asked most of his correspondents, as a mutual agreement, to burn his letter after reading them. Thus, it is important to study his letters by considering the means of formal devices and the relationship between this unique form of writing and the ideas, the opinions and the concepts expressed, paying attention to the lack of grammar control and to some recurring stylistic feature. This thesis, which provides a commentary and a philological apparatus to the letters that Giordani wrote to his friend, Pietro Brighenti, from 1815 to 1848, could be considered one first step towards the publication of all the unknown missives by Pietro Giordani.

Abstract
This thesis, which provides a commentary and a philological apparatus to the letters that Giordani wrote to his friend, Pietro Brighenti, from 1815 to 1848, could be considered one first step towards the publication of all the unknown missives by Pietro Giordani.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
