The present study focuses on three contemporary Scottish women writers through a historical and social perspective with constant references to postcolonial, feminist and gender studies. The works of Jackie Kay, A. L. Kennedy and Ali Smith offer the possibility to deal with the dynamics of cultural and gender difference, while considering Scotland as a post-nation. Thus these writers stress both the complexity and vitality of contemporary Scottish culture, by examining fundamental questions of national and gender identity.

Abstract
The present study focuses on three contemporary Scottish women writers through a historical and social perspective with constant references to postcolonial, feminist and gender studies. The works of Jackie Kay, A. L. Kennedy and Ali Smith offer the possibility to deal with the dynamics of cultural and gender difference, while considering Scotland as a post-nation. Thus these writers stress both the complexity and vitality of contemporary Scottish culture, by examining fundamental questions of national and gender identity.File in questo prodotto:
