This research aims to identify the relationships between US and UK television systems. The main focus is the pursuit of transnational features in regards to TV series. This study explore diverse aspects and several levels of TV, such as: production, distribution, textuality, institution, technology and consumption. It is believed that the heuristic value of this approach is mainly in its functionality and the capacity to intercept some changes that are taking place in the world of television series, especially in regards to the relationship between television and new media. The dissertation will be divided in two main parts. Part one is composed by two theoretical chapters focused on the notion of transnational. Part two is made entirely out by case studies. This part is complemented by four chapters with case histories at the end, which represent a group of examples that show how the theories and the notions illustrate in the part one work in contemporary television.
