The impact of a vehicle on a barrier is a very complex phenomenon, many interaction exist between the elements of the safety barrier and between the safety barrier and the ground. The research has focused on the design of a new road safety barrier with wood posts and wood beams. Different models have been verified, each models is modeled and tested under the impact of a vehicle, as required by EN 1317-1 and EN 1317-2. The wood mechanical properties are function of moisture content and temperature. For each model have been made to vary the temperature and the moisture content, and have been made to calculate the indices required by UNI EN 1317. For simulation is used the finite element code LS-DYNA, which is used in the world for the fast dynamic events and for the crash tests. Research is focused on the calculation of crash severity indices called ASI and THIV.
