Risate amare. Il Divorzio tra il teatro della Belle Époque e la Commedia all'italiana (1961-1974)

A circa cinquant’anni dalla promulgazione della legge Fortuna-Baslini, questa tesi di dottorato indaga sulla questione del Divorzio presentando un approccio storico-politico ripercorso attraverso una lettura artistico-culturale. In prima battuta ricostruisce le due fasi storiche del dibattito divorzistico mediante un esame diacronico del lungo periodo preso in analisi: il rapporto tra Divorzio e Massoneria, nell’Italia liberale, e il cammino verso la legge fino al successivo Referendum, nell’Italia Repubblicana. In parallelo alla lettura storico-politica del Divorzio, la tesi sviluppa una sezione artistico-culturale mediata attraverso il filo conduttore della Commedia. All’inizio porta il focus sul Teatro della Belle Èpoque, con lo studio di 5 importanti pièce francesi sul tema che contribuirono al dibattito divorzistico nell’Italia liberale e influenzarono al contempo la produzione di pièce dei nostri autori. In seguito viene posto sotto la lente il contributo della Commedia all’italiana nell’arco temporale tra il 1961 e il 1974, dove attraverso la funzione sociale del medium cinematografico vengono indagate le pellicole paradigmatiche che trattarono il tema del Divorzio, la crisi del matrimonio, le conseguenze della legge stessa e l’influenza sull’opinione pubblica. In merito a tale genere cinematografico trova spazio anche lo studio dei casi di Divorzio presenti nel Divismo italiano e i nuovi modelli familiari emergenti da quest’ultimo. Approximately 50 years after the enactment of the Fortuna-Baslini law, this Ph.D. thesis investigates the issue of divorce, presenting a historical-political approach traced through an artistic-cultural reading. At first, it reconstructs the two historical phases of the divorce debate through a diachronic examination of the long period under analysis: the relationship between divorce and Freemasonry in liberal Italy, and the path leading to the law until the subsequent referendum in Republican Italy. In comparison with the historical-political reading of divorce, the thesis develops an artistic-cultural section structured through the common thread of Comedy. It begins by focusing on Belle Époque theatre, with a study of five important French plays on the subject that contributed to the divorce debate in liberal Italy while also influenced the production of plays by Italian authors. Then it examines the contribution of Italian comedy style between 1961 and 1974, investigating the social function of the medium of cinema through paradigmatic films that dealt with the theme of divorce, the crisis of marriage, the consequences of the law itself, and its influence on public opinion. With regard to this film genre, the study also examines cases of Divorce in Italian Divismo and the new family models emerging from it.
