Shakespeare his outcasts. Analisi del reietto scespiriano e del suo linguaggio: un approccio corpus-based

La ricerca si concentra sul concetto di alterità dinamica, ovvero sulla fluidità delle identità marginali nei testi shakespeariani, esplorando come i personaggi reietti siano definiti e come interagiscano con le norme sociali e culturali del loro tempo. L’obiettivo è comprendere come Shakespeare rappresenti, interroghi e talvolta sovverta le dinamiche di potere e di identità della sua epoca, utilizzando figure marginali come strumenti critici per riflettere sulle tensioni sociali e politiche dell’Inghilterra elisabettiana e giacobiana. L’ipotesi di partenza è che i personaggi marginali nelle opere di Shakespeare non siano semplicemente rappresentazioni passive dell’esclusione, ma attivi agenti di resistenza e negoziazione delle norme sociali. Per verificare questa ipotesi, il lavoro si avvale di un approccio metodologico che combina il close reading tradizionale con il distant reading digitale, utilizzando tecniche di Natural Language Processing (NLP); un approccio ibrido che permette di individuare schemi e relazioni che caratterizzano i personaggi, offrendo nuovi spunti per comprendere la costruzione dell’alterità attraverso il linguaggio e la performatività.

This research focuses on the concept of dynamic alterity, that is, the fluidity of marginal identities in Shakespearean texts. It explores how outcast characters are defined and how they interact with the social and cultural norms of their time. The aim is to understand how Shakespeare represents, interrogates, and at times subverts the dynamics of power and identity in the Elizabethan and Jacobean eras, using marginal figures as critical instruments to reflect on the social and political tensions of his period. The central hypothesis is that marginal characters in Shakespeare’s works are not merely passive representations of exclusion, but rather active agents of resistance and negotiation of social norms. To test this hypothesis, the study adopts a methodological approach that combines traditional close reading with digital distant reading techniques, employing tools from Natural Language Processing (NLP). This hybrid approach enables the identification of patterns and relationships that characterize marginal figures, offering new insights into the construction of alterity through language and performativity.
