This study offers a systematic investigation of all the texts that can, to date, be attributed with certainty to Aristotle’s lost Eudemus. The fragments are examined from a philological perspective, that is, with attention to their context of transmission, their textual features, and the documentary reliability of the information they preserve. Once this aspect has been thoroughly explored, a substantial portion of the study is devoted to the exegesis of the authenticated texts. Clarifying the meaning of passages transmitted indirectly—often strongly influenced by their respective citation contexts—makes it possible to define more precisely the literary and historical-philosophical value of these remnants and, ultimately, to offer an attempt at a reconstruction of the work.

Abstract
This study offers a systematic investigation of all the texts that can, to date, be attributed with certainty to Aristotle’s lost Eudemus. The fragments are examined from a philological perspective, that is, with attention to their context of transmission, their textual features, and the documentary reliability of the information they preserve. Once this aspect has been thoroughly explored, a substantial portion of the study is devoted to the exegesis of the authenticated texts. Clarifying the meaning of passages transmitted indirectly—often strongly influenced by their respective citation contexts—makes it possible to define more precisely the literary and historical-philosophical value of these remnants and, ultimately, to offer an attempt at a reconstruction of the work.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
