This thesis introduces a two-stage framework for decarbonizing multi-energy systems. A full-year, hourly MILP model optimizes generation and grid expansion for coupled power and heat sectors. A Sequential Monte Carlo simulation then tests operational reliability under stochastic faults and weather. Applied to Ireland's 2050 grid, over 90% renewable share is feasible. Targeted grid and storage additions cut the power sector's risk index tenfold, ensuring robust design.

Abstract
This thesis introduces a two-stage framework for decarbonizing multi-energy systems. A full-year, hourly MILP model optimizes generation and grid expansion for coupled power and heat sectors. A Sequential Monte Carlo simulation then tests operational reliability under stochastic faults and weather. Applied to Ireland's 2050 grid, over 90% renewable share is feasible. Targeted grid and storage additions cut the power sector's risk index tenfold, ensuring robust design.File in questo prodotto:
