Starting from the consideration that the diagnosis of Parkinson's disease is an exquisitely clinical diagnosis, based on precise criteria of presentation and evolution of the symptoms, sometimes supported by the detection of genetic alterations that involve in a greater susceptibility to the disease but in the absence of a clear test that have the characteristics of sensitivity and specificity; the identification of biomarkers that can improve the accuracy of clinical diagnosis or help in identifying elements suggestive of prognosis and disease progression seems to be a very interesting research topic. In this regard, the perspectives offered by metabolomics are still poorly explored, since only part of informations existing in the metabolome is currently used to obtain significant data in relation to this specific neurodegenerative condition. On these assumptions, the object of this work was to explore the possibilities of use of metabolomics as a technique to research biomarkers in Parkinson's disease with the hope that the data that can be highlighted by this study may have a significant impact on clinical practice by the knowledge of the biochemical data intrinsic to this pathological condition, with the possible identification of new highly specific biomarkers for this disabling disorder of Movement.
