Abstract

The study reconstructs the accretion of peripheral potentates in the Ottoman Empire, and follows its transformation into national elites after the Sykes-Picot Agreement. The Patriotic Union of Kurdistan, Hezbollah and Hamas are analysed in their historical and morphological development. Eventually, a Gramscian approach to the concept of State in the post-Ottoman region allows to label the three political entities as "Intrastates".
