The thesis aims at reconstructing the response of the law towards the phenomenon of unmanned vehicle technology in the maritime and aviation sectors. It discusses the major legal issues arising from the civil use of unmanned aircraft and unmanned vessels: their inclusion within the general concepts of aircraft and ship; the technical regulations mainly concerning safety of navigation; the obligations and liability issues of the actors of the two industries with regard to unmanned vehicles operation. Both the current status of legislation and the possible future changes are addressed in the thesis.
