The corpus, rich but homogeneous, consists of autographed texts, unpublished or published in part (but written without the purpose of publication), of educated women, belonging to the upper middle class and lived between the nineteenth and twentieth centuries: the diary Giornale de'viaggi, 1804 of Maddalena Mastrilli, the diary Mie carissime memorie (1825-1882) of Tercsa Stappo, the diary Il mio diario (Quaderni, 1893-1895) of Rosina D'Amico, the diary Diario di Silvia Ferro (1/01 - 31/05/1901) of Silvia Ferro. The texts selected for the investigation, transcribed and analyzed from a linguistic point of view, are kept in the private archive of the Abbey of Montecassino and the National Diary Archive of Pieve Santo Stefano; can be traced back to the diary genre and to the textual type of the egodocument. The thesis, started with an introductory chapter that informs about the purpose of the work, the corpus, the biography of the writers and the editing criteria, is structured in two macro-sections: the first consists of the transcription of the texts; the second consists of the linguistic analysis, which is divided into the levels of handwriting, paragraph, punctuation; of phonology; of morphology. The research is a contribution to linguistic studies on the nineteenth-century private writings of educated writers: a front opened by the fundamental works of Rita Fresu, Serenella Baggio and other researchers, but which must be deepened and enriched.
