In recent years, different studies investigated gender typicality and its relationship with adjustment, well-being, and social competence at different ages (Andrews et al., 2019; Baiocco et al., 2021; Bukowski et al., 2017; Green et al., 2018; Martin et al., 2017a, b; Nielson et al., 2020a, b; Pauletti et al., 2017; Perry et al., 2019; Zosuls et al., 2016). Simultaneously, different theoretical perspectives were developed in assessing and approaching the study of gender typicality based on the binary vision of gender (Egan & Perry, 2001) or, most recently, considering the plurality of expressions and identities that move beyond the gender binarism (Martin et al., 2017a, b). According to the most recent perspective regarding gender typicality, the present dissertation would explore gender typicality through the dual identity approach in children and primarily in young adults. Notably, the present study would investigate the construct of gender typicality, starting rom childhood and focusing more on young adulthood as an innovative research aspect. Moreover, it explores how gender typicality matters in adjustment and psychological well- being, considering the relevance of gender and sexual orientation.
