The present research project deals with the development of the Temporary Ageny Work sector in Italy in a comparative perspective. The assumption which the research stems from is that the theoretical framework, based on Institutional Economics, is not suitable to understand the development of the sector as well as the wider usage of temporary agency workers comparing to the past. In particular, Institutional Economics is focused on the transaction costs, which underline the exclusive economic interest of the user firm in using this type of contractual arrangement. A broader perspective has to be considered with particular reference to the implication of this particular labour contract on the firm’s organisational structure.

Abstract

The present research project deals with the development of the Temporary Ageny Work sector in Italy in a comparative perspective. The assumption which the research stems from is that the theoretical framework, based on Institutional Economics, is not suitable to understand the development of the sector as well as the wider usage of temporary agency workers comparing to the past. In particular, Institutional Economics is focused on the transaction costs, which underline the exclusive economic interest of the user firm in using this type of contractual arrangement. A broader perspective has to be considered with particular reference to the implication of this particular labour contract on the firm’s organisational structure.
