The dissertation analyzes the patriotism of one of the most ancient and notable aristocratic families of Padua. The work focuses its subject privileging both the self-awareness and self-consciousness of Papafava’s lineage in self-positioning itself and its political, moral, social and cultural process from XIX to XX century between the early nineteenth centuy and the Twenties of the following one. twentieth centuries. The aristocratic network headed by Papafavas has been through many centuries one of the most ancient and conspicuous of Veneto. Papafavas, over the centuries, have entered into a wide range of family, political and cultural relationships with other circles of aristocrats, intellectuals and representatives of middle class and bourgeois culture. The dissertation has the objective to bring out the cultural and political attitudes of Papafavas’ network in the above long run, starting from the fall of the Venetian Republic, passing through the Napoleonic period and the Austrian domination. Covering such a wide span of centuries, the work tries to focus the differences between the oldest civic patriotism professed by Veneto’s patriciates under the Venetian Republic, the dynastic patriotism granted to the Austrian emperor and the Italian, national patriotism become established in XX century as consequence of the Italian Risorgimento and nationalization of Italian élites.
