Silk fibroin has drawn great attention in research as a biomaterial, however its capability in fibroblasts differentiation into myofibroblasts is unclear. We applied in vivo and in vitro experiments to access the affect of silk fibroin in fibroblasts differentiation into myofibroblasts. Using collagen I as a standard of comparison, silk fibroin showed no accelerating or slowing effects on fibroblasts differentiation into myofibroblasts. Silk fibroin may act as neutrally as collagen I does on fibroblasts differentiation into myofibroblasts via similar reductions of FA size and FAK phosphorylation and an alike level of CD44 expression. These performances of silk fibroin maintained it’s positive role in wound healing.

Differentiation of human fibroblasts is affected by culture on silk fibroin silk films as revealed by changes in focal adhesions and cd44
