The aim of this thesis is to compare two industrial sectors in between 17th and 18th century: ceramic and glass beads. The approach adopted have been greatly influenced by the most recent developments of institutional economics, although the work is based on a large set of archival data. After a methodological introduction, the first part is dedicated to the analysis of the ceramic sector: the Venetian guild (boccaleri) and the mainland privileged firms are studied. The second part provides an illustration of the two glass beads guilds (margariteri and perleri) underlining a set of conflictual situations that characterized the life of this industry in the 18th century. In the conclusion the author tries to shows the attempts to vertical integration in this two industrial sectors.
