The research conducted within this thesis pertains to the role that the image plays in visual perceptual and mental processes constitutive of subjectivity. To do this, philosophical inquiry that has the background as main references the analysis of Bergson, Sartre and Merleau-Ponty as well as part of contemporary theories on the image, crosses psychoanalysis, in particular the Lacanian reflection which focuses on the largest portion of the work. Under the magnifying glass of a philosophical reading aimed at highlighting the centrality of the image and the sight in the constitution and at the same time the dismissal of subjectivity, the text of the Lacanian reveals new aspects, reading along the lines of what you can do towards an interpretation of the subject is not completely solved within the linguistic categories of the symbolic and the imaginary.
