My research activity is part of a nutraceutical project recently that aims at developing a functional grape juice from berries of Vitis vinifera L. cv Sangiovese with a high concentration of microRNAs, whose target are patients who have suffered a myocardial infarction. The aim of my research work is to evaluate whether the intake of microRNA from Sangiovese berries can protect cardiac cells and improves the heart performance. This work may clarify the cardio-protective effects of grape microRNAs extracted from Vitis vinifera cultivar Sangiovese grapevine and this could provide a completely novel avenue for nutraceutical epigenetic approach based on agrobiodiversity.
