Between the beginning of the XI century and the second half of the XII in the Italian peninsula newly diffuses a technic of sculpture finalized to the decoration specially of architectonic elements. The sculpture of incrustation with mastic had spread, above all, in the areas near the Adriatic coast, that more easy had contacts with Byzantium.
