The purpose of this research is investigating the notions of “image” and “representation” in the philosophical thought of Martin Heidegger. Heidegger provides either a theoretical and a conceptual consideration of “image” [Bild], which could be better understood from his thoughts about main themes of his late philosophy, such as: being, nothing, truth, language, etc. Indeed, heidegerrian approach to image is not simple, since it needs to be linked to the diametrically opposed world of Vor-stellung (or representation), in order to comprehend its essence entirely. The considerations about image are not wide as other kinds of themes (for example language, poetry, metaphysic, art, etc.) and it appears to be less clear, almost hidden. However, the consideration of image does exist in Heidegger’s work. This research is developed following a historical and theoretical approach and it highlights ‘where’ and ‘how’ Heidegger deals with “Bild” and “Vorstellung”, through text analysis and interpretation. By correlating texts from different ages, it becomes clear that the heidegerrian “image” should be taken into consideration to better understand some features and philosophical trends of the contemporary society. Thus, heideggerian image could be described both referring to its poetical (dichterisch) happening (i.e. positively and independently) and referring to its difference from representation (i.e. negatively). This dissertation aims to contribute to the present debate about art and image, by using the thought of Heidegger and showing how many contemporary thinkers are inspired by it.

Abstract
This dissertation aims to contribute to the present debate about art and image, by using the thought of Heidegger and showing how many contemporary thinkers are inspired by it.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
