The PhD thesis offers an interpretation of the lyric tradition of the twentieth century, and its relationship with the fundamental and often conflicting concepts of "sacred" and "religious". The work moves within three distincted areas: 1. the identification of theological and philosophical  hypotexts underlying the twentieth-century poetry, especially in relation to the problem of Secularization, Nihilism and Atheism. 2. intertextual investigation aimed to detecting theological, philosophical and literary patterns, as well as the debts  and the differences among  themes  of the underlying archetypes. 3. the collection  of topoi and motifs such as: the Death of God, the divine Ontology, the Theodicy, considered fundamental theological questions of the 19th and 20th century poetry.
