At first glance, a reader of Economic Studies, a subject may seem inappropriate as that of the state borders, in essence, nearest to the history of institutions to economic in the strict sense. Not really. In fact, research has attempted to demonstrate the existence of a correlation between political and diplomatic activities of a productive land border, as has been abundantly described by the pioneering and now classic works devoted to the Pyrenees and the border of France moderna2 age. Moreover, it is the interdisciplinarity that allows to study with profit areas where state and intersecting realities comunitarie3. In the archive documents of the old regime is not otherwise easy to find sources that allow give an overview of environments, landscapes and economic structures are so different, but so close as those that lapped the old border between Verona and the Tyrol in the mountains, and Mantua and Ferrara, in the plains. As old as the state border, but come down to us as a demarcation of provinces and regions of Italy.
