In this thesis work, the topic of reactive power planning was treated. Starting from a thorough literature analysis, a new method was developed to meet the new requirements, due to the strong introduction of non-programmable renewable sources, of Transmission system Operators in a de-regulated electric power sector. the method was applied first to a test network and then to a possible future portion of the Italian power grid. The results show considerable effectiveness of the method in reducing the operating costs of the networks under consideration for maintaining short-circuit power and voltage stability.

Abstract

In this thesis work, the topic of reactive power planning was treated. Starting from a thorough literature analysis, a new method was developed to meet the new requirements, due to the strong introduction of non-programmable renewable sources, of Transmission system Operators in a de-regulated electric power sector. the method was applied first to a test network and then to a possible future portion of the Italian power grid. The results show considerable effectiveness of the method in reducing the operating costs of the networks under consideration for maintaining short-circuit power and voltage stability.
