This thesis focuses on the figure of Roland of Cremona, the first Dominican theologian to hold a chair in the University of Paris. In particular, this work studies how Roland integrated philosophical and scientific learning into Christian theology. The thesis is structured in three chapters: the first deals with the strategies, the tensions and the legacy of Roland's operation. The second analyses the use of astrological sources in Roland's writings, and its historical significance in 13th-century Northern Italy. Finally, the third chapter investigates Roland's employment of philosophy against heresies and forms of heterodox thought.
