This work aims to study the vernacular language used in school texts intended for the teaching of Latin in Lombardy in the 14th and 15th centuries. Starting in the 14th century, bilingual textbooks in Latin and the vernacular began to appear in schools, in which the vernacular was used for the (practical) purpose of making the Latin text accessible. The research aims, on the one hand, to provide an analysis of the vernacular language used in these texts to describe certain tendencies towards the koineisation of Old Lombard, and, on the other, to investigate the relationship between Latin and vernacular in school texts and its evolution. The reflection on Latin grammar led teachers and students of the time to confront themselves with linguistic problems that were also applicable to their mother tongue. An attempt was made to ascertain the extent to which these reflections influenced the process of grammatisation and normativisation of Old Lombard at the time.

Abstract
An attempt was made to ascertain the extent to which these reflections influenced the process of grammatisation and normativisation of Old Lombard at the time.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
