The aim of the research is a critical edition and a genetic study of the manuscript Ferrero Ventimiglia (FV), found in 1980 and currently preserved in a private collection in Turin. The manuscript contains the intermediate draft of the treaties Della Tirannide and Del Principe e delle Lettere, which were never published. The edition of this manuscript made it possible to carry out an original study of Alfieri’s treatises based on the genetic analysis of author variants in the two texts. Thus, our study helps to enlighten the genesis of the author’s two most important theoretical works. Our thesis is organized in two volumes. While the latter volume is devoted to the edition of the treaties, the former seeks to retrace the genesis and the history of Alfieri’s treatises. In the first volume we also propose two ways of reading the works and, especially, their genetic variants: the first aims to explore and reconsider the political positions of Alfieri, and the second concerns the author’s elaboration of style and argumentative prose, elements that have never been studied.
