The aim of this project is to synthesize a garnet for microwave applications having the following characteristic: - only single cubic phase - densities major of 96% - ferromagnetic linewidth, ¢H;< 100Oe - uniform grain size's distribution, with grains up to30 ¹m. In this thesis is described a process that yield ferrite garnet powders of Gd0;4Y2;6Fe5O12 using a laboratory Spray Drier (LabPlant, Lab-Top spray dryer, mod. SD-04). The composition was chosen tacking into account the in°uence of Gd+3 on microwave properties of garnet. The powders obtained by Spray Drier were characterize by scanning electron microscope (SEM mod. cambridge stereoscan 360), ICP spectroscopy (Jobin Yvon, mod. JY24R), differential thermal analysis (Netzsch, mod. STA 409) and X-Ray di®raction (Philips, X'Pert Pro). Sintered materials were prepared starting from powders calcined at 1200 C. The sinterability of these powders was followed by thermal dilatometry measu-ements (NETZSCH, 402E). The microstructure of sintered materials was examined by Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM mod. Cambridge Stereoscan 360) and the densities of the sintered materials was measured by buoyancy technique in deionised water (Sar- torius mod. CP124S). We have also performed measurments of ferromagnetic linewidth using a resonance cavity (TE106).
CP124S).

Abstract
The aim of this project is to synthesize a garnet for microwave applications having the following characteristic: - only single cubic phase - densities major of 96% - ferromagnetic linewidth, ¢H;< 100Oe - uniform grain size's distribution, with grains up to30 ¹m. In this thesis is described a process that yield ferrite garnet powders of Gd0;4Y2;6Fe5O12 using a laboratory Spray Drier (LabPlant, Lab-Top spray dryer, mod. SD-04).
