The project aims to valorize waste from the agri-food industry, specifically through the extraction of biomolecules from fish and fruit residues, in collaboration with Rigoni di Asiago, and the subsequent conversion of these residues into Carbon Dots (CDs). The primary objective is to explore the use of CDs as photocatalysts in various organic reactions, including: • 1,2-di-functionalization of olefins with alkyl halides via Atom Transfer Radical Addition (ATRA) reactions • Reduction of triaryl sulfonium salts and comparison of the reducing power of CDs with various characteristics and derived from different sources such as citric acid, glucose, and bass scales • Hydrothiolation of double bonds, with a focus on CDs produced from fruit waste The last part of the project is a photochemical post-fuctionalization of fatty acids that can be potentially extracted from fruit waste, we propose a visible light driven Fischer esterification using arylazo sulfones as Photoacid generators (PAGs).

Abstract
The project aims to valorize waste from the agri-food industry, specifically through the extraction of biomolecules from fish and fruit residues, in collaboration with Rigoni di Asiago, and the subsequent conversion of these residues into Carbon Dots (CDs). The primary objective is to explore the use of CDs as photocatalysts in various organic reactions, including: • 1,2-di-functionalization of olefins with alkyl halides via Atom Transfer Radical Addition (ATRA) reactions • Reduction of triaryl sulfonium salts and comparison of the reducing power of CDs with various characteristics and derived from different sources such as citric acid, glucose, and bass scales • Hydrothiolation of double bonds, with a focus on CDs produced from fruit waste The last part of the project is a photochemical post-fuctionalization of fatty acids that can be potentially extracted from fruit waste, we propose a visible light driven Fischer esterification using arylazo sulfones as Photoacid generators (PAGs).File | Dimensione | Formato | |
