INTELLIGENZA ARTIFICIALE E INVESTIGAZIONI. LA TECNOLOGIA COME STRUMENTO NELLA LOTTA ALLA MAFIA.

The evolution of mafias in modernity, including from a technological perspective, makes it essential to equip investigative bodies with cutting-edge tools that are useful for guiding investigative efforts, both strategically and operationally, and for anticipating the moves of criminal organizations. Based on these premises, the study aims to explore the opportunities offered by Artificial Intelligence in the context of the fight against organized crime, taking into account recent studies in the scientific field. At the same time, however, the analysis acknowledges the potential tensions with fundamental individual rights that the use of AI raises. The real challenge, and the central issue of contemporary and future debate, is to find the right balance between investigative efficiency and the protection of rights.

L’evoluzione nella modernità delle mafie, anche dal punto di vista tecnologico, rende imprescindibile dotare gli organi investigativi di strumenti all'avanguardia utili per indirizzare gli sforzi investigativi, sia sul piano strategico che sul piano operativo, ed anticipare le mosse delle organizzazioni criminali. Sulla base di queste premesse, lo studio si propone di sondare le opportunità offerte dall'Intelligenza Artificiale nel contesto di lotta alla criminalità organizzata avendo riguardo agli studi recentemente apparsi nel panorama scientifico. Al contempo, però, l'analisi si rende consapevole delle possibili tensioni con i diritti fondamentali dell’individuo che l'utilizzo dell'IA solleva. La vera sfida, nonché snodo centrale del dibattito contemporaneo e futuro, è rinvenire il giusto bilanciamento tra efficienza investigativa e tutela dei diritti.
