This doctoral project emphasizes the critical role of nurses in promoting and maintaining oral health through evidence-based care. The research included several phases: Systematic Review of Guideline Adherence: A mixed-method review of studies from 2010 to 2021 examined factors influencing nurses' adherence to guidelines. Intrinsic factors included knowledge, skills, attitudes, and professional identity. Extrinsic factors included organizational influences, workload, guideline structure, and patient attitudes. Review of Clinical Practice Guidelines: A systematic review of 906 articles, with 9 meeting the criteria, found no significant advantage of electric toothbrushes over manual ones, the reduced effectiveness of fluoride toothpaste with rinsing, specific mouthwash recommendations for adults, and varied check-up intervals. Proper denture care was also emphasized. Observational Study at Maggiore della Carita Hospital: Using the MISSCARE survey and Facility Score Sheet, the study identified oral care as frequently missed due to resource shortages and high patient turnover. No significant associations were found between missed care and nurses' characteristics or policies, highlighting the need for systemic changes. Training Program Evaluation: A quasi-randomized controlled trial assessed the impact of a training program on oral health conditions using the OHAT scale and internal dental protocols. Post-intervention results showed stabilization of oral health, attributed to staff training.

Abstract
Post-intervention results showed stabilization of oral health, attributed to staff training.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
