Nanomaterials and plant biostimulants are garnering significant attention for their potential applications in the agri-food sector. To date, most efforts have focused on exploring the independent applicability of these two emerging fields to enhance agricultural outcomes. However, a greater impact can be achieved by combining the strengths of nanotechnology and biostimulant technology. This transdisciplinary thesis merges these diverse fields to underscore the potential role of nanotechnologies in amplifying the efficacy of plant biostimulants and plant extracts, thereby contributing to the sustainable production of high-quality food. The study presents compelling evidence that integrating nanomaterials with biostimulants offers a promising and sustainable solution to address food insecurity in the near future. Moreover, the thesis identifies innovative pathways to leverage nanotechnology for adding value in agriculture, while critically evaluating their applications. Strategies like nanoencapsulation are proposed to develop nano-biostimulants capable of synergistically improving food quality.
